Are you discovering that budgeting with your partner isn’t as easy as you thought it would be? ⠀

When I meet with couples to help them craft their household budget I always let them in on this one little secret;⠀

Under the stress of changing your money habits, your partner is going to think the way you spend money is silly, and you will think the way your partner spends money is equally silly. This will be the source of many arguments.⠀

The truth is, if you plan for this problem now you might be able to avoid it in the first place. By agreeing to a specific amount of money ahead of time you can nip this problem right in the bud. ⠀

Call it an allowance, fun money or whatever you want, but this is money that can be spent on whatever tickles your fancy. Same goes for your partner’s fancy too. No explanations or justifications necessary. It’s just part of the budget. ⠀
